यदि गन्तुम् कृता बुद्धिर्वनम् मृगगजायुतम् ।
अहम् त्वानुगमिष्यामि वनमद्रे धनुर्धरः ॥ ॥२-३१-३॥
yadi gantum kṛtā buddhirvanam mṛgagajāyutam |
aham tvānugamiṣyāmi vanamadre dhanurdharaḥ ॥2-31-3॥
Translation
If your mind is set on going to the forest filled with deer and elephants, then I, wielding a bow, shall walk ahead of you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि आपने मृगों और हाथियों से भरे वन में जाने का निश्चय कर ही लिया है, तो मैं धनुष धारण करके आपके आगे-आगे चलूँगा।
English Commentary
Here, Lakshmana defines his purpose. Instead of arguing further against the exile, he accepts Rama’s resolve but inserts himself into the equation. His statement "I shall walk ahead" (agre) is profound. In a dangerous forest, threats usually appear from the front. Lakshmana insists on being the first line of defense, clearing the path of wild beasts and dangers so that Rama and Sita may walk safely behind him. By specifying that he will be a Dhanurdhara (wielder of the bow), he assures Rama that he is not coming as a burden to be protected, but as an armed guard capable of neutralizing the perils of the wild. It is the ultimate definition of active service.

लक्ष्मण यहाँ अपनी भूमिका स्पष्ट करते हैं। वे राम के निर्णय को बदलने की व्यर्थ कोशिश करने के बजाय, उस निर्णय में अपनी भागीदारी सुनिश्चित करते हैं। लक्ष्मण कहते हैं, 'अहम् अग्रे' (मैं आगे चलूँगा)। यह एक रक्षक और सेवक का भाव है। वन में खतरे—जंगली जानवर और राक्षस—सामने से आते हैं। लक्ष्मण का संकल्प है कि वे किसी भी संकट को राम तक पहुँचने से पहले स्वयं झेलेंगे। 'धनुर्धरः' शब्द का प्रयोग करके वे यह आश्वासन देते हैं कि वे वन की कठिनाइयों के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार हैं। वे राम के पीछे छिपने वाले भाई नहीं, बल्कि राम के लिए मार्ग बनाने वाले योद्धा के रूप में जाना चाहते हैं।
