Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स सुहृज् जनम् आमन्त्र्य वन वासाय निश्चितः ।
इष्क्वाकु गुरुम् आमन्त्र्य जग्राह आयुधम् उत्तमम् ॥ ॥२-३१-३०॥
Sa suhṛj janam āmantrya vana vāsāya niścitaḥ । Ikṣvāku gurum āmantrya jagrāha āyudham uttamam ॥ ॥2-31-30॥
Translation
Determined to dwell in the forest, he (Lakshmana) bid farewell to his friends, paid homage to the Preceptor of the Ikshvakus, and took hold of those excellent weapons.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वनवास के लिए कृतसंकल्प लक्ष्मण ने अपने मित्रों से विदा ली, और इक्ष्वाकु वंश के गुरु (वसिष्ठ) को प्रणाम करके उन उत्तम आयुधों को ग्रहण किया।
English Commentary
Lakshmana's actions are swift and resolute ('nishchitah' - determined). He follows the protocol perfectly: first bidding farewell to his peers as instructed, then approaching the Guru. Taking the weapons only after bowing to the 'Ikshvaku Gurum' (Vasistha) signifies that military might must always be subservient to spiritual wisdom and authority. It portrays Lakshmana not as a rebel, but as a disciplined warrior embarking on a righteous mission.

लक्ष्मण की तत्परता यहाँ दिखाई देती है। 'वन वासाय निश्चितः'—उनका मन अब पूरी तरह वन जाने के लिए स्थिर है, कोई दुविधा नहीं है। उन्होंने राम की आज्ञा का पालन करते हुए पहले मित्रों से विदा ली, फिर गुरु वसिष्ठ के पास गए। शस्त्र उठाने से पहले गुरु को नमन करना (आमन्त्र्य) आवश्यक संस्कार है। यह दर्शाता है कि शक्ति (शस्त्र) का प्रयोग सदैव गुरु के आशीर्वाद और ज्ञान के अधीन होना चाहिए।
