Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तम् उवाच आत्मवान् रामः प्रीत्या लक्ष्मणम् आगतम् ।
काले त्वम् आगतः सौम्य कान्क्षिते मम लक्ष्मण ॥ ॥२-३१-३२॥
Tam uvāca ātmavān Rāmaḥ prītyā Lakṣmaṇam āgatam । Kāle tvam āgataḥ saumya kāṅkṣite mama Lakṣmaṇa ॥ ॥2-31-32॥
Translation
Then the self-possessed Rama spoke affectionately to Lakshmana who had arrived: "O gentle one, you have arrived at the very moment I desired you, O Lakshmana."

तब आत्म-संयमी राम ने आए हुए लक्ष्मण से प्रेमपूर्वक कहा—"हे सौम्य लक्ष्मण! तुम बिल्कुल सही समय पर आए हो, जब मुझे तुम्हारी आवश्यकता थी।"
English Commentary
Rama is described as 'atmavan' (master of his self/soul), indicating his composure despite the impending crisis. He tells Lakshmana he has arrived 'kale' (at the right time). This marks the transition from preparation of defense (weapons) to the preparation of Dharma (charity). Rama needed Lakshmana not just for the forest journey, but to assist in the systematic distribution of his royal wealth before they severed ties with the kingdom.

राम के लिए 'आत्मवान्' विशेषण का प्रयोग यह दिखाता है कि इस विपत्ति काल में भी उनका मन पूरी तरह नियंत्रण में है। वे घबराए हुए नहीं हैं। 'काले' (समय पर) का महत्व यह है कि राम अब अपनी संपत्ति का दान करना शुरू करना चाहते थे और इसके लिए उन्हें लक्ष्मण की सहायता चाहिए थी। 'प्रीत्या' (प्रेम से) शब्द दर्शाता है कि राम को लक्ष्मण की उपस्थिति से कितना संबल मिल रहा है।
