सूतः चित्र रथः च आर्यः सचिवः सुचिर उषितः।
तोषय एनम् महा अर्हैः च रत्नैः वस्त्रैः धनैअः तथा ॥२-३२-१७॥
sūtaḥ citrarathaḥ ca āryaḥ sacivaḥ sucira uṣitaḥ |
toṣaya enam mahā arhaiḥ ca ratnaiḥ vastraiḥ dhanaiḥ tathā ॥2-32-17॥
Translation
"The charioteer and minister Chitraratha, a noble Aryan who has lived with us for a very long time; satisfy him with invaluable gems, clothes, and wealth."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"(मेरे) सारथी और मंत्री 'चित्ररथ', जो एक आर्य (श्रेष्ठ) पुरुष हैं और बहुत समय से (हमारे साथ) रह रहे हैं; उन्हें बहुमूल्य रत्नों, वस्त्रों और धन आदि से संतुष्ट करो।"
English Commentary
After honoring the priests, Rama turns his attention to his loyal staff. Chitraratha is described not just as a "Suta" (charioteer) but also as a "Sachiva" (counselor/companion) and "Arya" (noble one). The phrase "suchira uṣhitah" indicates his long-standing service, implying he is an elder, trusted figure in the household. Rama treats him with the dignity due to a family member, ordering gifts of "great value." This highlights Rama's gratitude and sense of justice; he ensures that loyal service is amply rewarded before he exits the scene, leaving no debts of gratitude unpaid.

ब्राह्मणों के बाद राम अपने निजी सेवकों और कर्मचारियों की सुध लेते हैं। चित्ररथ केवल एक सारथी नहीं, बल्कि "सचिव" (मंत्री/सलाहकार) और "आर्य" (सज्जन) भी हैं। "सुचिर उषितः" बताता है कि उन्होंने लंबे समय तक रघुकुल की सेवा की है, संभवतः वे दशरथ के समय से ही विश्वस्त हैं। राम सेवक और स्वामी के भेद को मिटाते हुए उन्हें "महा अर्हैः" (महान अर्हता वाले/बहुमूल्य) उपहार देने का आदेश देते हैं। यह राम की कृतज्ञता को दर्शाता है—वे वन जाने से पहले उन सभी का ऋण चुकाना चाहते हैं, ताकि वे किसी के ऋणी होकर वन न जाएं।
