Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नित्यस्वाध्यायशीलत्वान्नान्यत्कुर्वन्ति किम्चन।
अलसाः स्वादुकामाश्च महताम् चापि सम्मताः ॥२-३२-१९॥
nityasvādhyāyaśīlatvān nānyat kurvanti kiñcana |
alasāḥ svādukāmāśca mahatām cāpi sammatāḥ ॥2-32-19॥
Translation
"Who, being habituated to constant study of Vedas, do not do anything else (to earn a living); who are lazy (in other works) yet desire tasty food, and are respected even by the great..."

"जो नित्य स्वाध्याय (वेदाध्ययन) में लगे रहने के कारण और कुछ (जीविकोपार्जन का कार्य) नहीं करते हैं; जो (सांसारिक कार्यों में) आलसी हैं, किंतु स्वादिष्ट भोजन की इच्छा रखते हैं और महापुरुषों द्वारा भी सम्मानित हैं..."
English Commentary
This verse captures Rama's affectionate humor and deep understanding of student life. He playfully calls them "Alasah" (lazy) because they do no manual labor or earning, dedicated solely to "Svadhyaya" (self-study). He notes they are "Svadukamah" (desirous of tasty food), a natural trait of growing youth. Yet, they are "Mahatam sammatah" (respected by the great) because their "laziness" is actually intense intellectual focus. Rama validates their lifestyle; he believes society should feed those who feed society with knowledge. He wants to ensure these young scholars get the good food they crave but cannot earn.
