शालि वाह सहस्रम् च द्वे शते भद्रकाम्स् तथा।
व्यन्जन अर्थम् च सौमित्रे गो सहस्रम् उपाकुरु ॥२-३२-२०॥
śāli vāha sahasram ca dve śate bhadrakāms tathā |
vyanjana artham ca saumitre go sahasram upākuru ॥2-32-20॥
Translation
"O Son of Sumitra! Hand over to them a thousand loads of rice, two hundred Bhadrakas, and a thousand cows for the purpose of seasoning/condiments (ghee/milk)."

"हे सौमित्रे! उनके लिए एक हजार बोझा (भार) चावल, दो सौ भद्रक (संभवतः उत्तम प्रकार का अन्न या स्वर्ण मुद्राएं) तथा व्यंजन (घी, दूध, दही आदि) के लिए एक हजार गाएं प्रदान करो।"
English Commentary
Following up on his affectionate observation, Rama orders specific provisions. "Shali vaha sahasram" (a thousand loads of rice) ensures their staple food is secured. The phrase "Vyanjanartham" is key—it means "for condiments/seasoning." Dry rice is hard to eat; the thousand cows are specifically meant to provide the ghee, milk, and curd to make the rice palatable ("Svadukama"). Rama is ensuring the complete nutritional and gustatory satisfaction of the students. It shows his practical attention to detail—he provides not just the basics, but the means to enjoy them.
