मेखलीनाम् महासघः कौसल्याम् समुपस्थितः।
तेषाम् सहस्रम् सौमित्रे प्रत्येकम् सम्प्रदापय ॥२-३२-२१॥
mekhalīnām mahāsaṅghaḥ kausalyām samupasthitaḥ |
teṣām sahasram saumitre pratyekam sampradāpaya ॥2-32-21॥
Translation
"O Son of Sumitra! To the great association of girdle-wearing (students) who attend upon Kausalya, cause to be given a thousand (gold coins) to each one of them."

"मेखला धारण करने वाले ब्रह्मचारियों का जो विशाल समूह माता कौशल्या की सेवा में उपस्थित रहता है, हे सौमित्रे! उनमें से प्रत्येक को एक-एक हजार (स्वर्ण मुद्राएं) दिलाओ।"
English Commentary
Rama refers to a "Mahasangha" (great assembly) of "Mekhalinam"—students distinguished by their sacred girdles (Mekhala)—who assist Queen Kausalya in her religious duties. The instruction "pratyekam" (to each one individually) is significant. Rama does not give a lump sum to the group leader; he empowers each student individually with a thousand coins (implied gold/currency). This personal endowment ensures that every student attending his mother is financially secure, reflecting Rama's immense respect for those who serve his family spiritually.
