लक्ष्मणस्य च यद् वेश्म गृहम् च यद् इदाम् मम।
अशून्यम् कार्यम् एकैकम् यावद् आगमनम् मम ॥२-३२-२५॥
lakṣmaṇasya ca yad veśma gṛham ca yad idam mama |
aśūnyam kāryam ekaikam yāvad āgamanam mama ॥2-32-25॥
Translation
"Whatever house belongs to Lakshmana and this house which is mine; keep each one of them 'not empty' (occupied/maintained) until my return."

"लक्ष्मण का जो घर है और यह जो मेरा घर है; मेरे लौटने तक इन दोनों (भवनों) को एक-एक करके 'अशून्य' (भरा-पूरा/देखरेख युक्त) रखना।"
English Commentary
Rama assigns a crucial duty to his weeping staff: keep the residences of Lakshmana and himself "Ashunyam" (not empty/void). This means the houses should be maintained, cleaned, and perhaps ritually active, not abandoned to gather dust. The phrase "yavad agamanam mama" (until my return) is a powerful injection of hope. It assures them that the exile is temporary and he intends to come back. By giving them the responsibility of maintaining his home, he gives them a sense of purpose and a continuous connection to him during the fourteen long years of separation.

राम सेवकों को एक विशेष दायित्व सौंपते हैं—महलों को "अशून्य" रखना। 'शून्य' का अर्थ है खाली या वीरान। राम चाहते हैं कि उनके और लक्ष्मण के भवन खंडहर न बनें, बल्कि वहां साफ-सफाई, पूजा-पाठ और नित्य क्रियाएं चलती रहें। "यावद् आगमनम् मम" (मेरे लौटने तक) वाक्यांश सेवकों के मन में आशा का संचार करता है कि राम अवश्य लौटेंगे। यह निर्देश सेवकों को एक उद्देश्य (purpose) देता है। अब वे केवल वेतनभोगी नहीं, बल्कि राम के घर के 'रक्षक' हैं। यह उन्हें व्यस्त रखेगा और वियोग के दुख को सहने में मदद करेगा।
