तमुवाच ततो रामः परिहाससमन्वितम् ।
गवाम् सहस्रमप्येकम् न च विश्राणितम् मया ।
परिक्षिपसि दण्डेन यावत्तावदवाप्य्ससि ॥२-३२-३५॥
tam uvāca tato rāmaḥ parihāsasamanvitam |
gavām sahasram api ekam na ca viśrāṇitam mayā |
parikṣipasi daṇḍena yāvat tāvad avāpsyasi ॥2-32-35॥
Translation
Then Rama spoke to him with a jest: "I have not yet distributed even a single thousand of (these) cows. As far as you can throw your staff, that many (cows) you shall obtain."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब राम ने परिहास (मजाक) करते हुए उनसे कहा—"मैंने अभी तक (इन) गायों का एक हजार भी नहीं बांटा है। तुम अपनी लाठी (दंड) से जितनी दूर तक प्रहार कर सकोगे (फेंक सकोगे), उतनी गायें तुम्हें मिल जाएंगी।"
English Commentary
In a rare moment of levity amidst the gloom of exile, Rama speaks "parihasa samanvitam" (with humor/jest). He proposes a challenge to the old Brahmin. Pointing to the massive herds, Rama implies there is plenty left ("not even a thousand distributed" from this lot). He tells Trijata that he can have all the cows grazing within the range of his staff's throw. This playful test serves multiple purposes: it engages the Brahmin personally, tests his vigor despite his age, and turns the act of charity into a memorable interaction rather than a dry transaction.

गंभीर वातावरण में राम का यह "परिहास" (विनोद) एक अद्भुत प्रसंग है। राम त्रिजट की शारीरिक क्षमता की परीक्षा लेना चाहते हैं या शायद वातावरण को थोड़ा हल्का करना चाहते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि अभी तो गायों का विशाल भंडार (जिसमें से अभी एक हजार भी नहीं बंटे) शेष है। शर्त यह है कि त्रिजट को अपनी लाठी फेंकनी होगी। लाठी जितनी दूर जाएगी, वहां तक की सारी गायें उनकी होंगी। यह एक अनोखी चुनौती है—भाग्य का निर्णय बाहुबल से होगा। यह राम के चरित्र का एक मानवीय और खेल-प्रिय पहलू भी उजागर करता है।
