Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तीर्त्वा सरयूपारम् दण्डस्तस्य कराच्च्युतः ।
गोव्रजे बहुसाहास्रे पपातोक्षणसन्निधौ ॥२-३२-३७॥
sa tīrtvā sarayū pāram daṇḍas tasya karāc cyutaḥ |
go vraje bahu sāhasre papāta ukṣaṇa sannidhau ॥2-32-37॥
Translation
That staff, released from his hand, crossed the bank of the Sarayu river and fell near a bull in the midst of a herd of cattle numbering many thousands.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसके हाथ से छूटकर वह दंड सरयू नदी के उस पार जाकर, कई हजार गायों के समूह (गोव्रज) के बीच एक साँड़ (उक्षण) के पास गिरा।
English Commentary
The result of the throw is astounding. The staff travels across the breadth of the Sarayu River! For an old, starving man to achieve this feat implies either supernatural strength derived from his spiritual merit or divine intervention by Rama's will. The staff lands near a bull ("ukshana") in a herd of thousands ("bahu sahasre"). The sheer distance covered signifies that Trijata has won a jackpot. By the terms of the challenge, he has claimed a massive fortune in cattle, far exceeding his modest expectation of "something" (kinchid).

यह एक चमत्कारिक घटना है। एक वृद्ध और कमजोर ब्राह्मण द्वारा फेंका गया दंड विशाल सरयू नदी को पार कर गया! यह या तो त्रिजट की छिपी हुई शक्ति थी या राम की कृपा, या फिर भूख की ताकत। दंड "गोव्रजे बहुसाहस्रे" (कई हजार गायों के झुंड) में जाकर गिरा। शर्त के अनुसार, जहाँ तक दंड गया, वहां तक की (अथवा उस सीमा के भीतर आने वाली) सारी गायें त्रिजट की हो गईं। सरयू के पार दंड का गिरना यह अर्थ रखता है कि गायों की एक बहुत बड़ी संख्या (हजारों में) अब त्रिजट को मिलने वाली थी।
