समिद्धृत निधानानि परिध्वस्त अजिराणि च ।
उपात्त धन धान्यानि हृत साराणि सर्वशः ॥ ॥२-३३-१८॥
Samuddhṛta nidhānāni paridhvasta ajirāṇi ca । Upātta dhana dhānyāni hṛta sārāṇi sarvaśaḥ ॥ ॥2-33-18॥
Translation
We shall dig up our buried treasures, ruin the courtyards, take away all wealth and grain, and leave the place completely devoid of essence.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हम अपने घरों का गड़ा हुआ धन निकाल लेंगे, आंगनों को नष्ट-भ्रष्ट कर देंगे, धन-धान्य सब साथ ले लेंगे और (अयोध्या को) पूरी तरह सारहीन कर देंगे (ताकि कैकेयी को उजड़ा हुआ नगर मिले)।
English Commentary
This verse reveals the vindictive fury of the citizens directed at Kaikeyi. They resolve to leave Ayodhya not just empty, but ruined. They plan to dig up buried treasures, take all food and wealth, and even destroy the courtyards (Paridhvasta ajirani) of their own homes so no one else can enjoy them. The intent is to ensure that Kaikeyi inherits a wasteland. If she wants the kingdom without Rama, she will get a kingdom without wealth, people, or beauty—a shell "devoid of essence" (Hrita sarani). It acts as a curse upon the usurper. They want to ensure that her victory is bitter and worthless. It creates a haunting image of a ghost city left behind by a grieving population.

यह श्लोक प्रजा के भीषण क्रोध और 'स्कॉर्च्ड अर्थ' (Scorched Earth) नीति को दर्शाता है। वे कैकेयी के लिए एक समृद्ध अयोध्या नहीं छोड़ना चाहते। वे कहते हैं कि वे अपना "निधान" (खजाना) निकाल लेंगे और "धन-धान्य" सब साथ ले जाएंगे। वे अपने ही घरों के आंगनों को "परिध्वस्त" (बर्बाद) करने की बात कर रहे हैं। भाव यह है कि कैकेयी ने राज्य के लिए राम को निकाला, तो अब वह राज करे—लेकिन एक वीरान, खंडहर और भूतहा नगरी पर। "हृत साराणि"—जिसका सार हर लिया गया हो। प्रजा कैकेयी की जीत को पूरी तरह खोखला बना देना चाहती है। यह निष्क्रिय विरोध (Passive resistance) का एक उग्र रूप है।
