विनीतवीरपुरुषं प्रविश्य तु नृपालयम् ।
ददर्शवस्थितम् दीनम् सुमन्त्रमविदूरतः ॥ ॥२-३३-२८॥
Vinītavīrapuruṣaṃ praviśya tu nṛpālayam । Dadarśāvasthitam dīnam sumantramavidūrataḥ ॥ ॥2-33-28॥
Translation
Having entered the palace filled with disciplined and brave warriors, he saw Sumantra standing not far away, looking miserable.
हिंदी अनुवाद
विनीत और वीर पुरुषों (पहरेदारों) से युक्त राजभवन में प्रवेश करके, उन्होंने थोड़ी ही दूर पर सुमन्त्र को दीन भाव से खड़े हुए देखा।
English Commentary
Rama enters the inner zones of the palace. The description of guards as Vinita (humble/disciplined) and Vira (brave) shows that the external protocol of the court is still intact. However, the sight of Sumantra, the chief minister and charioteer, appearing Dinam (wretched/miserable), breaks this facade. Sumantra represents the grief of the inner circle. Seeing the usually composed minister in such distress confirms the gravity of the situation inside the King's chambers.

राजमहल की बाहरी व्यवस्था अभी भी सख्त है—वहाँ "विनीत" (अनुशासित) और "वीर" पुरुष तैनात हैं। राज्य का ढांचा खड़ा है, लेकिन आत्मा रो रही है। राम की दृष्टि सबसे पहले सुमन्त्र पर पड़ती है। सुमन्त्र केवल मंत्री नहीं, दशरथ के सखा भी हैं। उनका "दीन" (दुखी) अवस्था में खड़े होना अंदर चल रहे संकट का संकेत है। महल की भव्यता और सुमन्त्र की दीनता के बीच का विरोधाभास आने वाले तूफान की सूचना देता है।
