ततः प्रासाद हर्म्याणि विमान शिखराणि च ।
अधिरुह्य जनः श्रीमान् उदासीनो व्यलोकयत् ॥ ॥२-३३-३॥
Tataḥ prāsāda harmyāṇi vimāna śikharāṇi ca |
Adhiruhya janaḥ śrīmān udāsīno vyalokayat ॥2-33-3॥
Translation
Thereupon, the wealthy citizens, having ascended the palaces, mansions, and the tops of multi-storied buildings, looked down with melancholy minds.

तदनन्तर, नगर के संपन्न लोग महलों, अटारियों और सात-मंजिला भवनों के शिखरों पर चढ़कर, उदास मन से (राम को जाते हुए) देखने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse shifts the perspective to the citizens of Ayodhya. People climb to the highest points—palaces (prāsāda), mansions (harmya), and towers (vimāna)—to catch a glimpse of their beloved prince. The contrast is poignant: these high vantage points are usually for festive processions, but now the mood is udāsīno (listless, sorrowful, indifferent to worldly comforts). The "wealthy" (śrīmān) citizens are helpless witnesses to the dismantling of their city's joy. It sets the scene of a city paralyzed by grief, watching from above as their hope walks away on the street below.

अयोध्या के नागरिकों की प्रतिक्रिया यहाँ से शुरू होती है। 'श्रीमान् जनः' का अर्थ है नगर के संभ्रांत और धनी लोग। वे अपने ऊँचे भवनों (प्रासाद, हर्म्य, विमान) पर चढ़ गए हैं, ताकि राम की एक झलक पा सकें। लेकिन उनकी मनोदशा 'उदासीन' (उदास/खिन्न) है। ऊँचाई पर चढ़ना आमतौर पर उत्सव देखने के लिए होता है, लेकिन यहाँ वे एक त्रासदी के साक्षी बन रहे हैं। यह श्लोक राम की लोकप्रियता को दर्शाता है; पूरा नगर उन्हें विदा होते देखने के लिए उमड़ पड़ा है, लेकिन सन्नाटे और शोक के साथ। वे केवल 'देख' रहे हैं, कुछ कर नहीं पा रहे, जो उनकी विवशता को दर्शाता है।
