न हि रथ्याः स्म शक्यन्ते गन्तुम् बहु जन आकुलाः ।
आरुह्य तस्मात् प्रासादान् दीनाः पश्यन्ति राघवम् ॥ ॥२-३३-४॥
Na hi rathyāḥ sma śakyante gantum bahu jana ākulāḥ |
Āruhya tasmāt prāsādān dīnāḥ paśyanti rāghavam ॥2-33-4॥
Translation
Indeed, the streets were impassable due to being crowded with so many people; therefore, climbing up the palatial buildings, the miserable citizens gazed at Raghava.

सड़कों पर बहुत अधिक भीड़ होने के कारण चलना संभव नहीं था, इसलिए वे दीन-दुखी लोग महलों (और छतों) पर चढ़कर राघव (राम) को देख रहे थे।
English Commentary
The physical congestion of the streets mirrors the emotional overwhelming of the populace. The roads are blocked (na śakyante gantum) not by barricades, but by the sheer volume of anxious people. This forces the onlookers to higher ground. The citizens are described as dīnāḥ (miserable/wretched). This adjective captures the sudden transformation of Ayodhya's mood. The inability to move through the streets symbolizes the paralysis of the state itself. They watch Raghava, the descendant of Raghu, whose departure signifies the departure of dharma and prosperity from their lives.

भीड़ का घनत्व राम के प्रति जन-प्रेम का प्रमाण है। गलियाँ 'बहु जन आकुलाः' (लोगों से खचाखच भरी) हैं, जिससे पैदल चलना भी दूभर हो गया है। इसीलिए लोग छतों पर चढ़ गए हैं। श्लोक में 'दीनाः' (दीन/दुखी) शब्द का प्रयोग नागरिकों के लिए किया गया है। कल तक जो नागरिक प्रसन्न थे, आज वे अपने रक्षक को खोते देख अनाथ अनुभव कर रहे हैं। यह दृश्य दिखाता है कि राम का वनवास केवल एक पारिवारिक निर्णय नहीं था, बल्कि एक राष्ट्रीय आपदा थी जिसने सामान्य जनजीवन को अस्त-व्यस्त कर दिया था।
