अङ्ग राग उचिताम् सीताम् रक्त चन्दन सेविनीम् ।
वर्षम् उष्णम् च शीतम् च नेष्यति आशु विवर्णताम् ॥ ॥२-३३-९॥
Aṅga rāga ucitām sītām rakta candana sevinīm । Varṣam uṣṇam ca śītam ca neṣyati āśu vivarṇatām ॥ ॥2-33-9॥
Translation
Sita, who is deserving of fine cosmetics and accustomed to the cooling red sandalwood paste, will soon be rendered pale and discolored by the rain, heat, and cold.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो सीता (सदैव) अंगराग लगाने और लाल चंदन का सेवन (लेप) करने की अभ्यस्त हैं, उन्हें अब वर्षा, धूप (गर्मी) और ठंड शीघ्र ही कांतिहीन (विवर्ण) कर देंगे।
English Commentary
The citizens lament the physical toll the forest will take on Sita. She is described as accustomed to Rakta Chandana (red sandalwood) and fine unguents, symbols of royal care and a life of ease where the body is protected and pampered. She is a delicate flower of the palace. The verse juxtaposes this delicacy with the raw elements of nature: Varsham (rain), Ushnam (heat), and Shitam (cold). The people fear that exposure to these harsh conditions will rob Sita of her luster (Vivarnatam) and beauty. It is a touching expression of collective empathy; the citizens feel the impending physical hardship of their beloved princess as if it were their own. It underscores the cruelty of sending a protected royal woman into the wild.

प्रजाजन सीता जी की सुकुमारता और वन के कठोर वातावरण के बीच के संघर्ष की कल्पना कर रहे हैं। सीता जी "अंग राग उचिताम्" हैं, अर्थात उनका शरीर चंदन और सुगंधित लेप का आदी है। उनका पालन-पोषण अत्यंत लाड़-प्यार और विलासिता में हुआ है। जनता को चिंता है कि वन के कठोर तत्व—तेज धूप, मूसलाधार बारिश और कड़ाके की ठंड—उनके कोमल शरीर पर क्या प्रभाव डालेंगे। वे भविष्यवेत्ता की तरह देख रहे हैं कि प्रकृति के ये प्रहार शीघ्र ही उनके स्वर्ण जैसे वर्ण को फीका ("विवर्ण") कर देंगे। यह श्लोक प्रजा के मन में सीता के प्रति वात्सल्य और सुरक्षा की भावना को दर्शाता है। उन्हें राम के वनवास से अधिक सीता के कष्टों की चिंता सता रही है।
