अहम् राघव कैकेय्या वर दानेन मोहितः ।
अयोध्यायाः त्वम् एव अद्य भव राजा निगृह्य माम् ॥ ॥२-३४-२६॥
Aham rāghava kaikeyyā vara dānena mohitaḥ |
Ayodhyāyāḥ tvam eva adya bhava rājā nigṛhya mām ॥2-34-26॥
Translation
"O Raghava! I have been deluded by the granting of boons to Kaikeyi. You become the King of Ayodhya this very day by restraining (overthrowing) me!"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे राघव! मैं कैकेयी को वरदान देकर मोहित (विवेकशून्य/ठगा गया) हो गया हूँ। तुम आज ही मुझे बंदी बनाकर (या मेरा निग्रह करके) स्वयं अयोध्या के राजा बन जाओ।"
English Commentary
This is a moment of absolute desperation. Dasaratha, the upholder of Dharma, essentially asks for a coup d'état against himself. By telling Rama to become King by nigṛhya mām (restraining/overpowering me), he is begging Rama to prioritize the throne over the father's promise. He admits he was mohitaḥ (deluded) by Kaikeyi. This confession strips away his royal infallibility. He is pleading: "I am trapped by my word, but you are powerful. Use your power to save me from my own truth." It reveals the agonizing conflict between his role as a King bound by oaths and a father bound by love. He prefers to be a prisoner in Rama's kingdom than a free King without Rama.

यह रामायण के सबसे चौंकाने वाले श्लोकों में से एक है। राजा दशरथ का धर्मसंकट इतना गहरा है कि वे स्वयं राजद्रोह का सुझाव दे रहे हैं। 'निगृह्य माम्' का अर्थ है—मुझे कैद कर लो या मुझे बलपूर्वक हटा दो। राजा स्वीकार करते हैं कि वे 'मोहित' हैं (बुद्धि काम नहीं कर रही है)। यह एक पिता की हताशा की पराकाष्ठा है। वे जानते हैं कि धर्म के अनुसार राम को वन जाना है, लेकिन पुत्र-प्रेम उन्हें धर्म को तोड़ने के लिए उकसा रहा है। वे चाहते हैं कि राम बलप्रयोग करके गद्दी छीन लें, ताकि 'सत्य' टूटने का पाप दशरथ पर न लगे। वे अपनी ही सत्ता के विरुद्ध क्रांति का आह्वान कर रहे हैं, केवल अपने पुत्र को रोकने के लिए।
