Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भवान् वर्ष सहस्राय पृथिव्या नृपते पतिः ।
अहम् तु अरण्ये वत्स्यामि न मे कार्यम् त्वया अनृतम् ॥ ॥२-३४-२८॥
Bhavān varṣa sahasrāya pṛthivyā nṛpate patiḥ |
Aham tu araṇye vatsyāmi na me kāryam tvayā anṛtam ॥2-34-28॥
Translation
"O King! May you remain the Lord of the Earth for a thousand years. I, however, will dwell in the forest. I have no desire to make you a liar (associated with falsehood) on my account."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे नृपते! आप हजारों वर्षों तक इस पृथ्वी के स्वामी बने रहें। मैं तो वन में ही निवास करूँगा। मैं नहीं चाहता कि मेरे कारण आप झूठे ('अनृत') बनें।"
English Commentary
Rama gently but firmly rejects the coup. He wishes his father a reign of a thousand years, re-establishing the natural order. His reasoning is ethical: na me kāryam tvayā anṛtam (I have no business causing you to be false). Rama realizes that his father's integrity is the foundation of the kingdom. If he were to seize the throne, he would render his father a liar (one who broke a vow to Kaikeyi). A throne built on a broken promise is worthless to Rama. He chooses the hardships of the forest solely to preserve the King's Satya (truth), showing that he values his father's spiritual welfare more than his own physical comfort.

राम, दशरथ के विद्रोह के प्रस्ताव को सिरे से खारिज कर देते हैं। वे पिता को दीर्घायु और राज्य का आशीर्वाद देते हैं। राम का तर्क स्पष्ट है: 'न मे कार्यम् त्वया अनृतम्'—अर्थात्, मुझे ऐसे राज्य से कोई प्रयोजन नहीं है जो आपके सत्य के टूटने पर मिले। राम के लिए पिता का 'सत्य' (वचन) अयोध्या के सिंहासन से कहीं अधिक मूल्यवान है। यदि राम जबरदस्ती राजा बन जाते, तो दशरथ का कैकेयी को दिया वचन झूठा हो जाता। राम अपने पिता को 'अनृत' (झूठ) के कलंक से बचाने के लिए वन जा रहे हैं। यह एक पुत्र का अपने पिता के चरित्र की रक्षा के लिए किया गया सर्वोच्च बलिदान है।
