Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि सत्यात्मनस्तात धर्माभिमनसस्तव ।
विनिवर्त यितुं बुद्धि शक्यते रघुनन्दन ॥ ॥२-३४-३२॥
Na hi satyātmanastāta dharmābhimanasastava |
Vinivarta yitum buddhi śakyate raghunandana ॥2-34-32॥
Translation
"O Raghunandana! O Son! Since you are the very soul of truth and your mind is intent on righteousness, it is indeed not possible to turn your resolve away (from going to the forest)."

"हे रघुनन्दन! हे तात! तुम सत्यात्मा हो और तुम्हारा मन धर्म में लगा हुआ है; अतः तुम्हारी बुद्धि को (वन जाने के निश्चय से) लौटाना संभव नहीं है।"
English Commentary
Dasaratha acknowledges the immutability of Rama's character. He calls him satyātman (soul of truth) and dharmābhimanasa (mind set on Dharma). Because Rama is so virtuous, he cannot be swayed by emotions or political offers. The phrase na... śakyate (it is not possible) reflects the King's realization that trying to stop Rama is futile. Paradoxically, the very qualities that make Rama the perfect heir (his integrity and resolve) are the ones that ensure his departure. Dasaratha realizes he cannot corrupt his son to save his own happiness.

राजा स्वीकार करते हैं कि वे हार गए हैं—कैकेयी से नहीं, बल्कि राम की दृढ़ता से। वे जानते हैं कि राम 'सत्यात्मा' हैं। यदि राम साधारण राजकुमार होते, तो शायद राज्य के लोभ या पिता के अनुरोध से रुक जाते। परंतु राम धर्म पर आरूढ़ हैं। 'न शक्यते' (संभव नहीं है)—दशरथ महसूस करते हैं कि राम का चरित्र ही उनकी विदाई का कारण है। राम की अच्छाई ही राजा के दुख का कारण बन गई है। पिता अपनी असमर्थता व्यक्त कर रहे हैं कि वे अपने बेटे के नैतिक बल के सामने कमजोर पड़ गए हैं।
