अद्य तु इदानीम् रजनीम् पुत्र मा गच्च सर्वथा ।
मातरम् माम् च सम्पश्यन् वस इमाम् अद्य शर्वरीम् ॥ ॥२-३४-३३॥
Adya tu idānīm rajanīm putra mā gaccha sarvathā |
Mātaram mām ca sampashyan vasa imām adya sharvarīm ॥2-34-33॥
Translation
"But, O Son, do not go by any means tonight. Stay for this one night, looking at your mother and me."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे पुत्र! आज की इस रात तो तुम बिल्कुल मत जाओ। अपनी माता (कौसल्या) और मुझे देखते हुए आज की यह रात ('शर्वरी') यहीं निवास करो।"
English Commentary
Having failed to stop the exile, Dasaratha tries to delay it. This bargaining is a classic stage of grief. He begs Rama not to leave adya (today/now). He asks for just one night (imām adya sharvarīm). The motive is simple and heartbreaking: mātaram mām ca sampashyan (looking at your mother and me). He wants to freeze time. He knows that once the sun rises, Rama will be gone for fourteen years (which Dasaratha fears is forever). He clings to the present moment.

जब राजा राम को रोकने में पूरी तरह असफल हो जाते हैं, तो वे 'समय' मांगते हैं। वे कहते हैं—ठीक है, जाओ, लेकिन 'अद्य तु' (आज तो) नहीं। 'मा गच्च सर्वथा' (किसी भी तरह मत जाओ)—यह एक हताश याचना है। वे चाहते हैं कि राम एक और रात महल में रुकें। 'मातरम् माम् च सम्पश्यन्'—मुझे और माँ को देखते हुए। राजा को लगता है कि शायद एक रात में कुछ चमत्कार हो जाए, या कम से कम उन्हें अपने बेटे को जी भर के देखने का कुछ और समय मिल जाए। यह वियोग को टालने का मानवीय प्रयास है।
