Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि मे काम्क्षितम् राज्यम् सुखमात्मनि वा प्रियम् ।
यथा निदेशम् कर्तुम् वै तवैव रघुनन्धन ॥२-३४-४५॥
Na hi me kāṅkṣitam rājyam sukhamātmani vā priyam । Yathā nideśam kartum vai tavaiva raghunandana ॥ ॥2-34-45॥
Translation
I do not desire the kingdom, nor personal happiness, nor anything dear to myself. My only desire is to carry out your command, O Scion of Raghu.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे रघुनन्दन! न मुझे राज्य की आकांक्षा है, न अपने सुख की और न ही किसी प्रिय वस्तु की। मेरी इच्छा केवल आपकी आज्ञा का पालन करने की है।
English Commentary
This verse defines Rama's selflessness. He explicitly negates desire for the kingdom, happiness, or personal gain. His sole motivation is obedience to the father. By addressing Dasharatha as Raghunandana (delight/descendant of Raghu), he subtly invokes the lineage's reputation. Rama frames his obedience not as a burden, but as his primary purpose. It establishes that for Rama, the relationship with the father and the duty towards him supersedes all material aspirations.

यह निष्काम कर्मयोग का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण है। राम स्पष्ट करते हैं कि उनका त्याग किसी दबाव में नहीं है, बल्कि उनकी अपनी इच्छाओं के अभाव (नाकांक्षितम्) के कारण है। उन्होंने अपनी खुशी को पिता की आज्ञा में विलीन कर दिया है। पिता को 'रघुनन्दन' कह कर वे याद दिलाते हैं कि रघुकुल के वंशज होने के नाते, हम दोनों (पिता-पुत्र) के लिए धर्म का पालन ही सर्वोपरि है, व्यक्तिगत सुख नहीं।
