न एव अहम् राज्यम् इच्चामि न सुखम् न च मैथिलीम् ।
त्वाम् अहम् सत्यम् इच्चामि न अनृतम् पुरुष ऋषभ ॥२-३४-४७॥
Na eva aham rājyam icchāmi na sukham na ca maithilīm । Tvām aham satyam icchāmi na anṛtam puruṣa ṛṣabha ॥ ॥2-34-47॥
Translation
I do not desire the kingdom, nor happiness, nor even Maithili (Sita). I only desire that you remain true to your word and not become a liar, O Bull among men.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ! न मैं राज्य चाहता हूँ, न सुख, और न ही मैथिली (सीता) को। मैं तो केवल यही चाहता हूँ कि आप सत्यवादी रहें, झूठे नहीं।
English Commentary
This is the climax of Rama's argument and a testament to his supreme dedication to Truth (Satya). He states that compared to his father's integrity, nothing matters—not the kingdom, not his happiness, and shockingly, not even Sita (Maithili). While he loves Sita, he places the preservation of his father's Truth above her. This hyperbole emphasizes that the collapse of his father's word is the only tragedy he cannot bear. He implores Dasharatha, the 'Bull among men,' to prioritize his eternal reputation over temporary attachment.

यह सर्ग का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और चौंकाने वाला श्लोक है। राम कहते हैं कि वे 'मैथिली' (सीता) को भी त्याग सकते हैं, लेकिन पिता के सत्य को नहीं। यह राम के लिए 'सत्य' का सर्वोच्च स्थान दर्शाता है। यद्यपि वे सीता को साथ ले जा रहे हैं, किन्तु यह कथन उनकी प्राथमिकता को स्पष्ट करता है: पिता का धर्म पत्नी और राज्य से भी ऊपर है। 'पुरुषर्षभ' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ) कहकर वे दशरथ को उनके उच्च स्थान की याद दिलाते हैं, जिसे झूठ बोलकर गिराना नहीं चाहिए।
