गमिष्यति महा अरण्यम् तम् पश्य जगती पते ।
वृतम् राज गुणैः सर्वैः आदित्यम् इव रश्मिभिः ॥ ॥२-३४-८॥
Gamiṣyati mahā araṇyam tam paśya jagatī pate |
Vṛtam rāja guṇaiḥ sarvaiḥ ādityam iva raśmibhiḥ ॥2-34-8॥
Translation
"He is about to go to the great forest. O Lord of the Earth, look at him, who is surrounded by all royal virtues just as the sun is surrounded by rays."

"हे पृथ्वीपते! वे महावन को जाने वाले हैं। आप उन राम को देखिये जो समस्त राजोचित गुणों से वैसे ही घिरे हुए हैं, जैसे सूर्य अपनी किरणों से घिरा रहता है।"
English Commentary
Sumantra presents the stark reality: gamiṣyati mahā araṇyam (he will go to the great forest). There is no sugarcoating the destination. He urges the King, tam paśya (look at him), emphasizing the importance of this final visual exchange.
The metaphor used is profound. Rama is surrounded by rāja guṇaiḥ (royal virtues) like the sun is by its rays. This implies that Rama's royalty is intrinsic, not extrinsic. Taking away the kingdom does not take away his kingliness. Just as the sun carries its light wherever it goes, Rama carries his virtues to the forest. This serves two purposes: it validates Rama's worthiness and reassures the King that Rama possesses the internal resources to survive and shine, even in the wilderness.

सुमन्त्र राजा को वास्तविकता का सामना करने के लिए प्रेरित कर रहे हैं। 'गमिष्यति महा अरण्यम्'—यह अटल सत्य है कि राम वन जाएंगे। सुमन्त्र राजा से कहते हैं, "उन्हें देखिये" (तम् पश्य)। यह दर्शन अंतिम हो सकता है।
यहाँ राम की तुलना पुनः सूर्य से की गई है। जैसे सूर्य अपनी किरणों से अलग नहीं हो सकता, वैसे ही राम अपने 'राज गुणैः' (राजा के गुणों) से अलग नहीं हो सकते, चाहे वे वन में ही क्यों न हों। उनके राजसी वस्त्र उतर सकते हैं, लेकिन उनके गुण (धैर्य, क्षमा, सत्य) उनके साथ ही जाएंगे। सुमन्त्र राजा को यह सांत्वना देने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं कि वन जाने पर भी राम का तेज कम नहीं होगा; वे वहां भी सूर्य की भांति चमकेंगे। यह राजा के लिए गर्व और पीड़ा का मिश्रित क्षण है।
