ततो निर्धूय सहसा शिरो निःश्वस्व चासकृत् ।
पाणौ पाणिम् विनिष्पिष्य दन्तान् कटकटाय्य च ॥ ॥२-३५-१॥
Tato nirdhūya sahasā śiro niḥśvasva cāsakṛt । Pāṇau pāṇim viniṣpiṣya dantān kaṭakaṭāyya ca ॥ ॥2-35-1॥
Translation
Then, suddenly shaking his head, sighing repeatedly, wringing his hands, and grinding his teeth (in rage)...
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदನंतर (राजा की दशा देखकर) सुमन्त्र ने सहसा अपना सिर धुना, बार-बार लंबी सांसें लीं, हाथ-से-हाथ मसले और अपने दांत किटकिटाए।
English Commentary
This verse vividly describes the physical manifestations of Sumantra's suppressed rage. Shaking the head, deep sighing, wringing hands, and grinding teeth are universal signs of extreme frustration and anger that can no longer be contained. Sumantra moves from sorrow to fury. He is witnessing the destruction of his beloved King and cannot remain a silent spectator. This physical agitation is the prelude to the verbal lashing he is about to unleash upon Kaikeyi.

यह श्लोक सुमन्त्र के भीतर उमड़ते हुए प्रचंड क्रोध और असहायता का शारीरिक चित्रण है। सिर धुनना, हाथ मसलना और दाँत किटकिटाना—ये सभी क्रियाएं यह बताती हैं कि सुमन्त्र अब एक मंत्री की मर्यादा लांघकर एक क्रोधित रक्षक की भूमिका में आ रहे हैं। वे राजा की दयनीय स्थिति और कैकेयी की निष्ठुरता को देख अब और चुप नहीं रह पा रहे हैं। यह "रौद्र रस" का प्रारंभ है जो अगले श्लोकों में वाणी बनकर फूटेगा।
