अभिजात्यम् हि ते मन्ये यथा मातुस्तथैव च ।
न हि निम्बात्स्रवेत्क्षौद्रम् लोके निगदितम् वचः ॥ ॥२-३५-१७॥
Abhijātyam hi te manye yathā mātustathaiva ca । Na hi nimbātsravetkṣaudram loke nigaditam vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-35-17॥
Translation
I believe your innate nature is exactly like your mother's. It is a well-known saying in the world that honey does not flow from a neem tree.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं मानता हूँ कि तुम्हारा जन्मजात स्वभाव (अभिजात्य) वैसा ही है जैसा तुम्हारी माता का था। लोक में यह कहावत प्रसिद्ध है कि नीम के वृक्ष से कभी शहद नहीं टपकता।
English Commentary
Sumantra moves from general metaphors to a direct personal attack on Kaikeyi’s lineage. He asserts that her behavior is not an anomaly but a genetic inevitability derived from her mother. The phrase "Honey does not flow from a neem tree" reinforces the previous verse. By attributing her actions to her Abhijatya (birth/lineage), Sumantra suggests that she is acting according to a corrupted biological imperative. This serves as a preamble to the specific backstory about Kaikeyi's parents that he is about to narrate to shame her.
