Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सर्वभूतरुतम् तस्मात्सम्जज्ञे वसुधाधिपः ।
तेन तिर्यग्गतानाम् च भूतानाम् विदितम् वचः ॥ ॥२-३५-१९॥
Sarvabhūtarutam tasmātsamjajñe vasudhādhipaḥ । Tena tiryaggatānām ca bhūtānām viditam vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-35-19॥
Translation
Because of that boon, the Lord of the Earth (your father) could understand the speech of all beings. He understood the language of creatures of the animal realm as well.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस वरदान के कारण वे पृथ्वीपति (तुम्हारे पिता) सभी प्राणियों की बोली समझ सकते थे। उन्हें तिर्यक् योनि (पशु-पक्षी आदि) के जीवों की भाषा का भी ज्ञान हो गया था।
English Commentary
This verse details the supernatural ability granted to Kaikeyi's father, King Ashwapati: the comprehension of all animal speech (sarva-bhuta-rutam). Understanding the sounds of birds and beasts implies a deep connection with nature. Sumantra establishes this fact to set up the conflict. The boon, meant to be a gift of wisdom, becomes the catalyst for marital discord due to the Queen's insecurity—a direct parallel to how Dasharatha's boon to Kaikeyi (meant for love/gratitude) has now become the instrument of his destruction.

यह श्लोक उस वरदान की प्रकृति को स्पष्ट करता है जो राजा अश्वपति को मिला था। वह चींटी से लेकर पक्षियों तक, सभी की भाषा समझ सकते थे। यह एक अलौकिक क्षमता थी। सुमंत्र यह विवरण इसलिए दे रहे हैं ताकि आगे की घटना का संदर्भ स्पष्ट हो सके—कि कैसे एक छोटी सी घटना (पशुओं की बात सुनकर हँसना) एक बड़े पारिवारिक कलह का कारण बन गई। यह शक्ति राजा के लिए आनंद का विषय थी, लेकिन उनकी पत्नी की शंकालु प्रकृति के कारण यही शक्ति संकट बन गई।
