सत्यश्चाद्य प्रवादोऽयम् लौकिकः प्रतिभाति मा ।
पित्R^ऊन् समनुजायन्ते नरा मातरमङ्गनाः ॥ ॥२-३५-२८॥
Satyaścādya pravādo'yam laukikaḥ pratibhāti mā । Pitṝn samanujāyante narā mātaramanganāḥ ॥ ॥2-35-28॥
Translation
Today, that popular proverb seems true to me: "Men take after their fathers, and women take after their mothers."

आज मुझे वह लौकिक कहावत सत्य प्रतीत हो रही है कि "पुरुष अपने पिता के स्वभाव का और स्त्रियाँ अपनी माता के स्वभाव का अनुसरण करती हैं।"
English Commentary
Sumantra invokes genetic determinism to validate his attack. This is a famous adage from the Ramayana regarding heredity and character. By stating that women follow their mothers, he locks Kaikeyi into the narrative of the "wicked mother" he just finished telling. It serves a dual purpose: it explains her inexplicable cruelty as inevitable biology and simultaneously insults her by denying her any individual virtue, reducing her to a copy of her flawed mother.

सुमंत्र अपने तर्क को एक सामाजिक सिद्धांत (Generalization) से पुष्ट करते हैं। यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण की प्रसिद्ध सूक्तियों में से एक है। सुमंत्र का आशय यह है कि राम अपने पिता दशरथ के समान सत्यवादी और धर्मपरायण हैं, जबकि कैकेयी अपनी माता के समान क्रूर और हठी है। यह कैकेयी के लिए एक गहरा अपमान है, क्योंकि सुमंत्र ने अभी-अभी सिद्ध किया है कि उसकी माता का चरित्र कितना घृणित था। यह मनोवैज्ञानिक दबाव बनाने का प्रयास है।
