नैवसाक्षुभ्यते देवी न च स्म परिदूयते ।
न चास्या मुखवर्णस्य विक्रिया लक्ष्यते तदा ॥ ॥२-३५-३७॥
Naiva sākṣubhyate devī na ca sma paridūyate । Na cāsyā mukhavarṇasya vikriyā lakṣyate tadā ॥ ॥2-35-37॥
Translation
The Queen was neither agitated nor did she feel any regret. No change in her facial complexion was observed at that time.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(परंतु) वह देवी (कैकेयी) न तो विचलित हुई और न ही उसे कोई दुख हुआ। उस समय उसके चेहरे के रंग में कोई विकार (परिवर्तन) भी नहीं देखा गया।
English Commentary
The climax of the confrontation is met with icy silence. Despite being called a murderer of her husband and a destroyer of the kingdom, Kaikeyi remains impassive. The text notes the lack of Vikriya (change/reaction) in her complexion. This physical description serves to highlight her total emotional detachment. She has steeled herself so completely against public opinion and moral judgment that neither insults nor pleas can penetrate her resolve. It signals the definitive failure of diplomacy.

सुमंत्र के इतने कठोर और भावुक तर्कों का परिणाम शून्य रहा। यह श्लोक कैकेयी की निष्ठुरता का भयानक चित्र प्रस्तुत करता है। सामान्यतः निंदा सुनने पर व्यक्ति का चेहरा क्रोध या लज्जा से लाल हो जाता है, लेकिन कैकेयी 'स्थितप्रज्ञ' की भाँति पाप में स्थिर थी। उसके चेहरे पर कोई शिकन न आना यह दर्शाता है कि वह भावनाओं से परे हो चुकी थी। यह मौन हठ किसी भी तर्क से अधिक भयावह है, क्योंकि यह दर्शाता है कि अब वापसी के सभी रास्ते बंद हो चुके हैं।
