सा विषण्णा च सम्त्रस्ता कैकेयी वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ।
राजानमेवाभिमुखी कैकेयी वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-३६-११॥
Sā viṣaṇṇā ca samtrastā Kaikeyī vākyam abravīt |
Rājānam evābhimukhī Kaikeyī vākyam abravīt ॥2-36-11॥
Translation
Filled with dejection and terrified, Kaikeyi turned her face toward the King and spoke the following words.

English Commentary
The adjectives used here—vishanna (dejected) and samtrasta (frightened)—mark a shift in Kaikeyi’s demeanor. She is no longer just angry; she is desperate. Realizing that Dasaratha’s order to equip Rama would nullify the benefit of the exile for Bharata, she turns to face the King directly. This confrontation is crucial; it shows her resolve to secure every material advantage for her son, even if it means stripping Rama of basic comforts. It sets the stage for her next argument, where she will demand that Rama leave with absolutely nothing, revealing the extent of her cruelty.
