Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एतद्वचो नेच्छ्सि पापवृत्ते ।
हितम् न जानासि ममात्मनो वा ।
आस्थाय मार्गम् कृपणम् कुचेष्टा ।
चेष्टा हि ते साधुपदादपेता ॥ ॥२-३६-३२॥
Etad vaco necchasi pāpavṛtte |
Hitam na jānāsi mamātmano vā |
Āsthāya mārgam kṛpaṇam kuceṣṭā |
Ceṣṭā hi te sādhupadād apetā ॥2-36-32॥
Translation
O woman of sinful conduct! You do not desire this good counsel. You do not know what is good for me or even for yourself. Resorting to evil efforts, you have adopted a wretched path; indeed, your actions have strayed far from the path of the virtuous.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अरी पापचारिणी! तू इस (हितकारी) बात को नहीं मान रही है। तू न मेरा हित जानती है, न अपना। तूने कुचेष्टा करके नीच (कृपण) मार्ग को अपनाया है। तेरा यह प्रयास सज्जनों के मार्ग से बिल्कुल विपरीत है।
English Commentary
Dasaratha drops all diplomatic language. He brands her papavrutte (one of sinful nature). He diagnoses her blindness: in hurting Rama, she is destroying her own future and interests (atmano va), though she cannot see it yet. He condemns her path as kripanam (wretched/low) and her efforts as kuchesta (wicked attempts). This is a severe denunciation, declaring that she has completely abandoned the path of decency and virtue (sadhupadad apeta).

राजा का धैर्य अब टूट चुका है। वे कैकेयी को 'पापवृत्ते' (पापी आचरण वाली) कहते हैं। अब अनुनय-विनय नहीं, बल्कि सीधा आरोप है। राजा कहते हैं कि वह अपना ही हित नहीं समझ रही—क्योंकि इस कृत्य से वह विधवा होगी और उसका पुत्र घृणा का पात्र बनेगा। 'आस्थाय मार्गम् कृपणम्'—उसने क्षुद्र और नीच रास्ता चुना है। राजा स्पष्ट करते हैं कि उसका आचरण 'साधुपद' (सज्जनों के मार्ग) से हट चुका है। यह पति द्वारा पत्नी का पूर्ण नैतिक बहिष्कार है।
