अनुव्रजिष्याम्य् अहम् अद्य रामम् ।
राज्यम् परित्यज्य सुखम् धनम् च ।
सह एव राज्ञा भरतेन च त्वम् ।
यथा सुखम् भुन्क्ष्व चिराय राज्यम् ॥ ॥२-३६-३३॥
Anuvrajiṣyāmy aham adya Rāmam |
Rājyam parityajya sukham dhanam ca |
Saha eva rājñā Bharatena ca tvam |
Yathā sukham bhuṅkṣva cirāya rājyam ॥2-36-33॥
Translation
I too shall follow Rama today, abandoning the kingdom, happiness, and wealth. You, along with your 'King' Bharata, may enjoy this kingdom for a long time as you please!
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं भी राज्य, सुख और धन का त्याग करके आज ही राम के पीछे-पीछे चला जाऊंगा। तू राजा भरत के साथ मिलकर (मेरे और राम के बिना) इस राज्य का चिरकाल तक सुखपूर्वक भोग करना!
English Commentary
In a final act of desperation, Dasaratha plays his last card. He declares his intention to abdicate and follow Rama into exile immediately. If she wants the kingdom for Bharata, she can have it—but it will be a kingdom without a father, a brother, or the current King. The sarcasm in "Enjoy the kingdom for a long time" bites deep; he implies that without Rama and himself, the kingdom will be a joyless, cursed possession. It is a tragic foreshadowing that he will indeed leave the kingdom, not on foot, but through death.

दशरथ यहाँ अपना अंतिम निर्णय (ultimatum) सुनाते हैं। यदि राम जाएंगे, तो राजा भी जाएंगे। 'अनुव्रजिष्याम्य् अहम्'—मैं भी वन गमन करूंगा। यह कैकेयी के लिए सबसे बड़ा आघात था (या होना चाहिए था), क्योंकि वह विधवा होकर राजमाता नहीं बन सकती थी। अंतिम पंक्ति में गहरा व्यंग्य (sarcasm) है—"तुम और भरत मज़े से राज्य भोगना।" राजा जानते हैं कि उनके और राम के बिना प्रजा भरत को स्वीकार नहीं करेगी और राज्य नष्ट हो जाएगा। यह एक टूटे हुए हृदय की पुकार और श्राप दोनों है।
