Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उचुश्च परमायस्ता रामम् ज्वलिततेजसम् ।
वत्स नैवम् नियुक्तेयम् वनवासे मनस्विनी ॥ ॥२-३७-१६॥
ucuśca paramāyastā rāmam jvalitatejasam |
vatsa naivam niyukteyam vanavāse manasvinī ॥2-37-16॥
Translation
Extremely distressed, they spoke to the radiant Rama: "Dear child, this high-minded lady has not been ordered to dwell in the forest."
हिंदी अनुवाद
अत्यंत दुखी होकर उन्होंने तेजस्वी राम से कहा— "हे वत्स! इस मनस्विनी (सीता) को वनवास के लिए आज्ञा नहीं दी गई है (शर्त केवल तुम्हारे लिए थी)।"
English Commentary
The palace women appeal to a technicality in the boons to save Sita. They point out that the mandate of exile applies solely to Rama. By addressing Rama as "Vatsa" (dear child), they invoke a maternal authority to stop this injustice. They argue that Sita is "niyukta" (appointed/ordered) for this fate only by her own will, not by the decree, implying that Rama has the authority to forbid her from undergoing this unnecessary suffering.

यहाँ रानियाँ और अन्य स्त्रियाँ तर्क और भावना का मिश्रण प्रस्तुत करती हैं। वे राम को याद दिलाती हैं कि कैकेयी के वरदान केवल राम के निर्वासन तक सीमित थे; सीता का जाना अनिवार्य नहीं है। वे सीता को "मनस्विनी" (स्वाभिमानी या उच्च विचारों वाली) कहती हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि यद्यपि सीता स्वेच्छा से जा रही हैं, किन्तु उन्हें रोका जाना चाहिए। वे राम के तेज (ज्वलिततेजसम्) के समक्ष भी अपनी बात रखने का साहस करती हैं क्योंकि उनका स्नेह भय से बड़ा है।
