चीरे गृहीते तु तया समीक्ष्य नृपतेर्गुरुः ।
निवार्य सीताम् कैकेयीम् वसिष्ठो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-३७-२१॥
cīre gṛhīte tu tayā samīkṣya nṛpaterguruḥ |
nivārya sītām kaikeyīm vasiṣṭho vākyamabravīt ॥2-37-21॥
Translation
Seeing her taking the bark dress, the King's preceptor (Vasistha) stopped Sita and, addressing Kaikeyi, spoke these words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सीता को वल्कल ग्रहण करते देख, राजा के गुरु वसिष्ट जी ने सीता को रोका और कैकेयी को डाँटते हुए यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The intervention of Guru Vasistha marks a critical turning point. Until now, the protests were emotional; now, they become authoritative. Seeing the violation of Dharma—where an innocent princess is forced into asceticism without cause—the Royal Preceptor steps in. He physically or verbally stops (nivārya) Sita and directs his wrath at Kaikeyi. His involvement signifies that Kaikeyi has crossed not just familial boundaries, but ethical and spiritual lines as well.

अब तक शांत खड़े कुलगुरु वसिष्ठ का धैर्य टूट जाता है। धर्म के ज्ञाता होने के नाते, वे जानते हैं कि यह अधर्म हो रहा है। सीता का वल्कल पहनना वरदान का हिस्सा नहीं था। वसिष्ठ का हस्तक्षेप अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि वे रघुकुल के सर्वोच्च अधिकारी हैं। उन्होंने सीता को "निवार्य" (रोककर) सीधे कैकेयी पर प्रहार किया, क्योंकि वे जानते थे कि इस अनर्थ की जड़ वही है। यह दृश्य में एक नाटकीय और गंभीर मोड़ लाता है।
