अथ यास्यति वैदेही वनम् रामेण सम्गता ।
वयमप्यनुयास्यामः पुरम् चेदम् गमिष्यति ॥ ॥२-३७-२५॥
atha yāsyati vaidehī vanam rāmeṇa samgatā |
vayamapyanuyāsyāmaḥ puram cedam gamiṣyati ॥2-37-25॥
Translation
"If the Princess of Videha (Sita) goes to the forest accompanying Rama, then we too shall follow, and indeed this entire city will go."

"यदि विदेहकुमारी सीता राम के साथ वन जाती हैं, तो हम सब भी उनके पीछे-पीछे जाएँगे और यह पूरी नगरी भी चली जाएगी।"
English Commentary
Vasistha issues a stark ultimatum to Kaikeyi. He asserts that legitimate authority and population follow virtue, not just the throne. By stating that the entire city will migrate, he threatens Kaikeyi with a pyrrhic victory: she may win the geographical territory of Ayodhya, but it will be a ghost town devoid of its citizens, who view Sita and Rama as the heart of the state.

वसिष्ठ जी यहाँ कैकेयी को चेतावनी दे रहे हैं। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि राम और सीता केवल व्यक्ति नहीं, बल्कि अयोध्या के प्राण हैं। यदि सीता, जो राज्य की लक्ष्मी हैं, वन जाती हैं, तो प्रजा उन्हें अकेला नहीं छोड़ेगी। गुरु का यह कथन जन-भावना का प्रतिबिंब है कि अयोध्यावासी ईंट-पत्थर के महलों से नहीं, बल्कि अपने प्रिय राजा और रानी से जुड़े हैं। यह 'खाली राज्य' की धमकी है।
