एकस्य रामस्य वने निवास ।
स्त्वया वृतह् केकयराजपुत्रि ।
विभूषितेयम् प्रतिकर्मनित्या ।
वसत्वरण्ये सह राघवेण ॥ ॥२-३७-३५॥
ekasya rāmasya vane nivāsa |
stvayā vṛtah kekayarājaputri |
vibhūṣiteyam pratikarmanityā |
vasatvaraṇye saha rāghaveṇa ॥2-37-35॥
Translation
"O daughter of the King of Kekaya, the residence in the forest was chosen by you for Rama alone. Let this lady (Sita), who is accustomed to daily adornment, live in the forest with Raghava, fully adorned."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे केकयराजपुत्री! तुमने केवल एक राम का वनवास माँगा था। इसलिए, श्रृंगार की नित्य अभ्यासी यह सीता, भली-भाँति आभूषित होकर ही राघव के साथ वन में रहे।"
English Commentary
The Guru clarifies the contractual terms of the boon. The penalty applies to the individual named (Rama), not to his entourage. Since Sita accompanies him out of love, not decree, she retains her royal privileges. Vasistha insists she remains vibhūṣita (adorned), ensuring that even in exile, her status as the Crown Princess is visually maintained.

वसिष्ठ जी कानूनी और तार्किक बात रख रहे हैं। वरदान 'एकस्य रामस्य' (अकेले राम के लिए) था। सीता अपनी मर्जी से जा रही हैं, अतः उन पर वन के नियम लागू नहीं होते। "प्रतिकर्मनित्या" (जिसे सजने-संवरने की आदत हो) शब्द सीता की सुकुमारता और उनके राजसी जीवन को दर्शाता है। गुरु चाहते हैं कि वन में भी सीता को रानी जैसा सम्मान मिले।
