अथ चीराणि कैकेयी स्वयम् आहृत्य राघवम् ।
उवाच परिधत्स्व इति जन ओघे निरपत्रपा ॥ ॥२-३७-६॥
Atha cīrāṇi Kaikeyī svayam āhṛtya Rāghavam |
Uvāca paridhatsva iti jana oghe nirapatrapā ॥2-37-6॥
Translation
Then Kaikeyi, shameless amidst the gathering of people, brought the bark garments herself and said to Raghava, "Put these on."

तब निर्लज्ज कैकेयी स्वयं वल्कल वस्त्र लाकर और जनसमूह के बीच (बिना किसी संकोच के) राघव से बोली—"इन्हें पहन लो।"
English Commentary
The poet emphasizes Kaikeyi’s utter lack of shame (nirapatrapa) with this action. Instead of waiting for servants, she personally fetches the rough bark robes and hands them to Rama in front of the weeping court (jana oghe). Her eagerness to see him stripped of royal attire is palpable. She wants to seal the deal instantly, ensuring there is no last-minute change of heart by the King. This act cements her villainy in the eyes of the assembly; she effectively hands the death sentence to her husband’s happiness with her own hands.

यहाँ कैकेयी की निष्ठुरता अपनी चरम सीमा पर है। शब्द 'निरपत्रपा' (लज्जाहीन) उसके चरित्र का सटीक वर्णन करता है। सामान्यतः सेवक वस्त्र लाते, लेकिन कैकेयी को डर था कि राजा कहीं राम को रोक न लें या रेशमी वस्त्र न दे दें। इसलिए, मर्यादा को ताक पर रखकर वह स्वयं उठी और राम को वल्कल थमा दिए। भरी सभा में, जहाँ सब रो रहे थे, उसका यह कृत्य अत्यंत क्रूर था। उसे इस बात का कोई मलाल नहीं था कि वह अपने पुत्र समान राम को भिखारी का वेष दे रही है।
