ननु पर्याप्तम् एतत् ते पापे राम विवासनम् ।
किम् एभिः कृपणैः भूयः पातकैः अपि ते कृतैः ॥ ॥२-३८-१०॥
nanu paryāptam etat te pāpe rāma vivāsanam |
kim ebhiḥ kṛpaṇaiḥ bhūyaḥ pātakaiḥ api te kṛtaiḥ ॥2-38-10॥
Translation
"O sinful woman, is the exile of Rama not enough for you? Why are you committing further wretched sins (like dressing Sita in bark)?"

"अरी पापिनी! क्या राम का वनवास तेरे लिए पर्याप्त नहीं है? फिर तू इन (सीता को वल्कल देने जैसे) और अधिक नीच पापों को करके अपने पाप का भार क्यों बढ़ा रही है?"
English Commentary
Dasharatha asks Kaikeyi to stop while she is 'ahead' in her evil plan. She has already achieved her main objective (Rama's exile); adding humiliation to Sita is gratuitous cruelty. He terms these additional acts as kṛpaṇaiḥ pātakaiḥ (wretched/miserable sins). It suggests that while the exile was a political maneuver, this specific act is petty malice that serves no strategic purpose other than to accumulate bad karma.

दशरथ यहाँ 'पाप के घड़े' भरने की बात कर रहे हैं। राम को वन भेजना ही एक महापाप था, लेकिन सीता को अपमानित करना उस पाप को कई गुना बढ़ा रहा है। "कृपणैः पातकैः" (दीन/नीच पाप) का अर्थ है ऐसे पाप जो अनावश्यक हैं और केवल द्वेषवश किए जा रहे हैं। राजा उसे चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि वह अपनी आत्मा पर और कितना बोझ लादेगी।
