मृगीवोत्फुल्लनयना मृदुशीला तपस्विनी ।
अपकारम् कमिह ते करोति जनकात्मजा ॥ ॥२-३८-९॥
mṛgīvotphullanayanā mṛduśīlā tapasvinī |
apakāram kamiha te karoti janakātmajā ॥2-38-9॥
Translation
"With eyes wide like a doe, of gentle nature and devoted to austerity, what harm can this daughter of Janaka do to you?"

"हिरणी के समान बड़ी-बड़ी आँखों वाली, कोमल स्वभाव वाली यह (सती) जनकनंदनी तुम्हारा क्या अपकार कर सकती है?"
English Commentary
The King invokes the imagery of a mṛgī (doe) to emphasize Sita's harmlessness and vulnerability. Her wide, startled eyes reflect fear, not ambition. Describing her as mṛduśīlā (soft-natured), Dasharatha argues that Sita is physically and mentally incapable of being a threat. It underscores the gross imbalance of power: a ruthless queen crushing a gentle princess who is incapable of retaliation.

दशरथ सीता के सौंदर्य और स्वभाव का वर्णन करके उनकी निर्दोषता सिद्ध करते हैं। "मृगी" (हिरणी) की उपमा सीता की मासूमियत और भयभीत अवस्था को दर्शाती है। "मृदुशीला" (कोमल स्वभाव) बताती है कि वह विद्रोह या षड्यंत्र करने में असमर्थ है। ऐसी निरीह स्त्री को कष्ट देकर कैकेयी को क्या मिलेगा? यह प्रश्न कैकेयी के पत्थर दिल से टकराकर बिखर जाता है।
