प्रतिज्ञातम् मया तावत् त्वयोक्तम् देवि शृण्वता ।
रामम् यदभिषेकाय त्वमिहाअत मब्रवीः ॥ ॥२-३८-११॥
pratijñātam mayā tāvat tvayoktam devi śṛṇvatā |
rāmam yadabhiṣekāya tvamihāata mabravīḥ ॥2-38-11॥
Translation
"O Queen, hearing what you said when you came here regarding Rama's coronation, I promised only that much (what was explicitly asked)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे देवि! राम के अभिषेक के लिए आई हुई तुमने जो कहा, मैंने उसे सुनते हुए केवल उतनी ही प्रतिज्ञा की थी (अर्थात् राम के वनवास की, सीता के वल्कल की नहीं)।"
English Commentary
Dasharatha reiterates the strict limitations of his verbal contract. He recalls the specific moment of the boon-granting, reminding Kaikeyi that her demands were focused on stopping the Abhisheka (coronation) and substituting it with exile for the candidate (Rama). By revisiting the original conversation, he attempts to legally nullify her current actions regarding Sita, asserting that anything beyond the original demand is null and void.

यह श्लोक दशरथ की उस दलील का निष्कर्ष है जो वे पिछले कई श्लोकों से दे रहे हैं। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि वरदान का संदर्भ "राम का अभिषेक" रोकने और "राम का वनवास" था। उस बातचीत में सीता का नाम भी नहीं था। इसलिए, वे कैकेयी को याद दिला रहे हैं कि वह अनुबंध की शर्तों का उल्लंघन कर रही है। 'देवि' संबोधन यहाँ व्यंग्यात्मक या आदतवश हो सकता है, लेकिन स्वर दृढ़ अस्वीकृति का है।
