इयम् धार्मिक कौसल्या मम माता यशस्विनी ।
वृद्धा च अक्षुद्र शीला च न च त्वाम् देव गर्हिते ॥ ॥२-३८-१५॥
Iyam dhārmika Kausalyā mama mātā yaśasvinī |
Vṛddhā ca akṣudra śīlā ca na ca tvām deva garhate ॥2-38-15॥
Translation
(Rama says) O Lord! This Kausalya, my mother, is righteous, illustrious, aged, and of a noble (generous) nature. She has never found fault with you/blamed you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राम कहते हैं) हे देव! यह मेरी माता कौसल्या धर्मपरायणा, यशस्विनी, वृद्धा और उदार स्वभाव वाली हैं। इन्होंने कभी भी आपकी निंदा नहीं की है।
English Commentary
Rama advocates for his mother, Kausalya, emphasizing her virtues to Dasharatha. He describes her as Dharmika (righteous) and Akshudra-shila (of non-petty or noble character). Crucially, Rama points out that despite the immense pain caused by Dasharatha’s decision to banish her son, Kausalya has never blamed the King. This commentary highlights Rama's foresight. He knows that grief often leads to isolation. By reminding Dasharatha of Kausalya’s unwavering loyalty and her advanced age, Rama is proactively securing her emotional and physical well-being in his absence. It is a poignant moment where the son acts as the protector of the mother, entrusting her care to the very person responsible for her current sorrow, appealing to the King's sense of justice and duty.

राम अपनी माता कौसल्या को "धार्मिक" और "अक्षुद्र शीला" (उदार/महान स्वभाव वाली) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। जाते समय राम को अपनी चिंता नहीं है, बल्कि अपनी बूढ़ी माँ की चिंता है जो उनके वियोग में अकेली रह जाएंगी। राम दशरथ को याद दिलाते हैं कि कौसल्या ने सौत की ईर्ष्या या राजा के कठोर निर्णय के बावजूद कभी राजा की आलोचना नहीं की। यह श्लोक कौसल्या के त्याग और राम के पितृ-भक्ति के साथ-साथ मातृ-भक्ति को भी दर्शाता है। राम यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहते हैं कि उनके जाने के बाद दशरथ कौसल्या के प्रति उदासीन न हो जाएं। "वृद्धा" शब्द का प्रयोग करके राम राजा के संरक्षण और करुणा को जगाना चाहते हैं। यह एक पुत्र का अपने पिता से अंतिम और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण अनुरोध है।
