Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चीराण्यसास्या जनकस्य कन्या ।
नेयम् प्रतिज्ञा मम दत्तपूर्वा ।
यथासुखम् गच्छतु राजपुत्री ।
वनम् सम्ग्रा सह सर्वर्त्नैः ॥ ॥२-३८-६॥
cīrāṇyasāsyā janakasya kanyā |
neyam pratijñā mama dattapūrvā |
yathāsukham gacchatu rājaputrī |
vanam samgrā saha sarvartnaiḥ ॥2-38-6॥
Translation
"Let the daughter of Janaka take off these bark robes. This was not a pledge previously given by me. Let the Princess go to the forest comfortably, equipped with all treasures."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"जनकनन्दिनी सीता ये वल्कल वस्त्र त्याग दे। मैंने (तुम्हें) ऐसी कोई प्रतिज्ञा पहले नहीं दी थी। यह राजकुमारी (सीता) सभी प्रकार के रत्नों और धन-धान्य के साथ सुखपूर्वक वन जाए।"
English Commentary
Dasharatha draws a line in the sand regarding the terms of the boon. He explicitly states that imposing bark robes on Sita violates the agreement ("This was not the pledge given by me"). He insists that Sita acts as a free agent accompanying Rama, and therefore retains her right to luxury (sarva ratnaih). He tries to convert her exile into a royal camping expedition rather than an ascetic penance.
हिंदी टीका
दशरथ यहाँ एक वैधानिक (legal) बिंदु उठाते हैं। वरदान के अनुबंध (Contract) में केवल राम का वनवास था, सीता की वेशभूषा का उल्लेख नहीं था। "न इयम् प्रतिज्ञा" (यह प्रतिज्ञा नहीं थी) कहकर वे कैकेयी के कृत्य को अवैध घोषित करते हैं। वे आदेश देते हैं कि सीता को अपनी राजसी मर्यादा के साथ जाने दिया जाए। यह प्रयास है कि वनवास केवल स्थान परिवर्तन हो, जीवनशैली का परिवर्तन नहीं (सीता के लिए)।
