वासांसि च महार्हाणि भूषणानि वराणि च ।
वर्षाण्येतानि संख्याय वैदेह्याः क्षिप्रमानय ॥२-३९-१५॥
vāsāṃsi ca mahārhāṇi bhūṣaṇāni varāṇi ca |
varṣāṇyetāni saṃkhyāya vaidehyāḥ kṣipramānaya ॥2-39-15॥
Translation
Counting these years (of exile), quickly bring expensive garments and excellent ornaments for Vaidehi (Sita).
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राजा ने आदेश दिया) इन (चौदह) वर्षों की गणना करके, वैदेही (सीता) के लिए बहुमूल्य वस्त्र और श्रेष्ठ आभूषण शीघ्र ले आओ।
English Commentary
Dasharatha gives a specific and thoughtful command: calculate the duration of the exile (14 years) and provide enough high-value garments (vāsāṃsi mahārhāṇi) and jewelry for Sita to last that entire period. By addressing her as Vaidehi (Princess of Videha), he acknowledges her high lineage and the fact that she entered the forest voluntarily, not by the decree that bound Rama. This provision is an act of protective love, ensuring that even in the wilderness, his daughter-in-law retains the external marks of her dignity and is not reduced to destitution.

यह श्लोक दशरथ के पितृत्व और वात्सल्य का प्रमाण है। उन्होंने वशिष्ठ ऋषि के उस तर्क को मान लिया है कि सीता को वल्कल पहनने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। वे आदेश देते हैं कि पूरे १४ वर्षों ('वर्षाण्येतानि संख्याय') के लिए पर्याप्त वस्त्र और आभूषण दिए जाएं। 'महार्हाणि' (बहुमूल्य) वस्त्र और आभूषण सीता को देने का उद्देश्य यह है कि वन में भी उनकी राजसी मर्यादा बनी रहे और उन्हें किसी वस्तु का अभाव न हो। यह सीता के प्रति राजा के विशेष स्नेह और चिंता को दर्शाता है।
