असत्यशीला विकृता दुर्गाह्याहृदयास्तथा ।
युवत्यः पापसंकल्पाः क्षणमात्राद्विरागिणः ॥२-३९-२२॥
asatyaśīlā vikṛtā durgāhyāhṛdayāstathā |
yuvatyaḥ pāpasaṃkalpāḥ kṣaṇamātrādvirāgiṇaḥ ॥2-39-22॥
Translation
Such young women are of untrue character, unstable, with hearts difficult to fathom, of sinful resolve, and become detached (lose love) in a mere moment.

ऐसी स्त्रियाँ असत्य स्वभाव वाली, विकार युक्त, जिनके मन की बात जानना कठिन है (दुर्गाह्यहृदया), पाप पूर्ण संकल्प वाली और क्षण भर में ही अनुराग छोड़ देने वाली होती हैं।
English Commentary
The terminology Kausalya uses here is intense and possibly coloured by her own recent trauma with Kaikeyi. She describes fickle minds as durgāhya-hṛdayāḥ (having hearts impossible to comprehend) and kṣaṇa-mātrād virāgiṇaḥ (falling out of love in a split second). This reflects the shock of how quickly loyalties can shift in the pursuit of power or self-interest. Kausalya lists these negative traits to paint a picture of Adharma (unrighteousness), setting a dark backdrop against which she expects Sita’s righteousness to shine.

यहाँ कौशल्या की चिंता और वाणी में तीव्रता है। वे धर्म से च्युत स्त्रियों के लिए कठोर विशेषणों का प्रयोग करती हैं—'दुर्गाह्यहृदया' (जिनके दिल की बात समझना असंभव है) और 'क्षणमात्राद्विरागिणः' (जो पल भर में विरक्त हो जाती हैं)। यह संभवतः कैकेयी की ओर भी एक सूक्ष्म संकेत हो सकता है, जिसने वर्षों के प्रेम को क्षण भर में त्याग कर राम को वन भेज दिया। कौशल्या ने अपनी आंखों के सामने परिवार को बिखरते देखा है, इसलिए उनका अविश्वास गहरा गया है। वे सीता को इन दुर्गुणों से दूर रहने का उपदेश दे रही हैं।
