Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स मुहूर्तम् इव असम्ज्ञो दुह्खितः च मही पतिः ।
विललाप महा बाहू रामम् एव अनुचिन्तयन् ॥ ॥२-३९-३॥
Sa muhūrtam iva asamjño duḥkhitaḥ ca mahī patiḥ |
Vilalāpa mahā bāhū Rāmam eva anucintayan ॥2-39-3॥
Translation
The mighty-armed Lord of the Earth (Dasharatha), remaining unconscious for a moment and grieving, began to lament, thinking only of Rama.

वह महाबाहु राजा (दशरथ) कुछ क्षण अचेत से रहने के बाद, दुखी होकर केवल राम का ही चिंतन करते हुए विलाप करने लगे।
English Commentary
Dasharatha oscillates between unconsciousness and conscious agony. The epithet "Maha-bahu" (mighty-armed) serves as an ironic contrast to his current helpless state; his physical strength is useless against emotional trauma. Upon regaining consciousness ("asamjno"), his mind instantly latches onto the source of his pain: Rama. The commentary suggests that his lamentation is not just emotional outbursts but stems from deep contemplation ("anucintayan") of Rama. His entire existence has narrowed down to this single loss. It illustrates the intensity of Dasharatha's attachment to Rama, which is both his greatest joy and now his fatal undoing.

मूर्छा टूटने के बाद भी स्थिति में सुधार नहीं हुआ। राजा दशरथ "महाबाहु" (विशाल भुजाओं वाले/शक्तिशाली) हैं, फिर भी वे विवश होकर रो रहे हैं। उनकी चेतना लौटी तो केवल एक ही विचार के साथ—राम। उनका विलाप साधारण रोना नहीं है, बल्कि एक गहरे चिंतन का परिणाम है ("अनुचिन्तयन्"). वे राम के गुणों, उनके भविष्य और अपने द्वारा किए गए अन्याय के बारे में सोचकर विलाप कर रहे हैं। राजा का मन राम में इतना रम गया है कि उन्हें राज्य, प्रजा या अन्य रानियों का कोई ध्यान नहीं है। यह वियोग की वह अवस्था है जहाँ प्रेमी (यहाँ पिता) को सर्वत्र केवल अपना प्रिय ही दिखाई देता है।
