साहमेवंगता श्रेष्ठा श्रुतधर्मपरावरा ।
आर्ये किमवमन्येयं स्त्रीणां भर्ता हि दैवतम् ॥२-३९-३१॥
sāham evaṃgatā śreṣṭhā śrutadharmaparāvarā |
ārye kimavamanyeyaṃ strīṇāṃ bhartā hi daivatam ॥2-39-31॥
Translation
I am such (as described), established in virtue, having heard and understood the subtleties of Dharma (high and low). O Noble Lady, why would I disregard him? For women, the husband is indeed the deity.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे आर्ये! मैं ऐसी (उपर्युक्त विचारों वाली), श्रेष्ठ आचरण में स्थित और धर्म के सूक्ष्म व स्थूल रूपों (परावरा) को सुनने/जानने वाली हूँ। मैं उनका (राम का) अपमान क्यों करूँगी? स्त्रियों के लिए पति ही देवता है।
English Commentary
Sita concludes her response with confidence in her own moral compass. She describes herself as śruta-dharma-parāvarā—one who has studied the nuances of Dharma, distinguishing between the superior (para) and inferior (avara) duties. By asserting this, she gently reminds Kausalya that she needs no basic instruction on wifely duties. Her rhetorical question, "Why would I disregard him?" serves to erase Kausalya's anxiety completely. She affirms that her reverence for Rama is absolute, rooted in the scriptural truth that for a wife, the husband is the living representation of the divine.

सीता अपने कथन का उपसंहार करती हैं। 'श्रुतधर्मपरावरा' विशेषण महत्वपूर्ण है—इसका अर्थ है जिसने धर्म के 'पर' (श्रेष्ठ/सूक्ष्म) और 'अवर' (गौण/स्थूल) दोनों पक्षों को गुरुमुख से सुना और समझा है। सीता कौशल्या के उस भय का निवारण करती हैं कि कहीं गरीबी के कारण सीता राम का अनादर न करें। वे प्रश्न करती हैं, 'किम् अवमन्येयम्' (मैं अपमान क्यों करूँगी?), यह दर्शाता है कि ऐसा विचार उनके मन में आना भी असंभव है। वे पुनः दोहराती हैं कि पति ही 'दैवतम्' (पूज्य देवता) है, चाहे वह महल में हो या वन में।
