सुप्तायास्ते गमिष्यन्ति नव वर्षाणि पञ्च च ।
समग्रमिह सम्प्राप्तं मां द्रक्ष्यसि सुहृद्वृतम् ॥२-३९-३५॥
suptāyāste gamiṣyanti nava varṣāṇi pañca ca |
samagramiha samprāptaṃ māṃ drakṣyasi suhṛdvṛtam ॥2-39-35॥
Translation
These fourteen (nine and five) years will pass as if you were asleep. You shall see me returned here, whole and safe, surrounded by friends.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम्हारे सोते-सोते ही (जैसे नींद में रात बीत जाती है) ये चौदह (नौ और पांच) वर्ष बीत जाएंगे। तुम मुझे सुहृदों (मित्रों/स्वजनों) से घिरे हुए, पूर्ण रूप से (कुशलता पूर्वक) यहाँ लौटा हुआ देखोगी।
English Commentary
Rama uses a comforting metaphor, telling Kausalya that the fourteen years will pass easily as a night of sleep (suptāyāḥ). He explicitly mentions nava varṣāṇi pañca ca (fourteen years) to acknowledge the reality but softens the blow with the promise of return. The word samagram (whole/entire/safe) is crucial; he assures her he will return not broken or diminished, but intact and victorious, surrounded by well-wishers (suhṛd-vṛtam). This is an attempt to leave her with a vision of the future reunion rather than the present separation.

राम कौशल्या को आश्वस्त करते हैं कि समय की गति सापेक्ष है। यदि वे धैर्य रखेंगी, तो यह लंबा समय 'सुप्तायाः' (सोये हुए व्यक्ति के समान) स्वप्न की तरह बीत जाएगा। राम वादा करते हैं कि वे 'समग्रम्' (पूर्ण/सकुशल) लौटेंगे। यह शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि वन में अनेक खतरे हैं, लेकिन राम माँ को विश्वास दिलाते हैं कि वे सुरक्षित वापस आएंगे और पुनः 'सुहृद्वृतम्' (अपनों से घिरे हुए) होंगे। यह एक पुत्र का माँ को दिया गया अंतिम वचन और जीवनदान है।
