Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
संवासात्परुषं किञ्चिदज्ञानाद्वापि यत्कृतम् ।
तन्मे समनुजानीत सर्वाश्चामन्त्रयामि वः ॥२-३९-३८॥
saṃvāsātparuṣaṃ kiñcidajñānādvāpi yatkṛtam |
tanme samanujānīta sarvāścāmantrayāmi vaḥ ॥2-39-38॥
Translation
Whatever harshness I may have committed due to living together or out of ignorance, please forgive me for that. I bid farewell to you all.
हिंदी अनुवाद
एक साथ रहने के कारण यदि मैंने (कभी) अज्ञानवश कोई कठोर वचन कहा हो या कोई अनुचित कार्य किया हो, तो उसके लिए आप सब मुझे क्षमा करें। मैं आप सबको प्रणाम करता हूँ (विदा लेता हूँ)।
English Commentary
This is one of the most moving verses in the Ayodhya Kanda. Rama apologizes for any paruṣam (harshness) he might have shown due to saṃvāsāt (familiarity/living together) or ajñānāt (ignorance). It is a preemptive apology to ensure he leaves with a clean slate, leaving no room for ill will. The irony is palpable: the Prince who is being wronged is asking for forgiveness from the collective mothers, some of whom are associated with the Queen banishing him. His request samanujānīta (please authorize/forgive me) showcases his total lack of bitterness.

यह श्लोक राम की विनम्रता की पराकाष्ठा है। राम, जिन्होंने कभी किसी का अहित नहीं किया, वे अपनी माताओं से क्षमा मांग रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं 'संवासात्' (साथ रहने से) कभी-कभी अनबन हो जाती है, या 'अज्ञानात्' (अनजाने में) गलती हो सकती है। वे किसी भी संभावित भूल के लिए 'समनुजानीत' (क्षमा/अनुमति) मांगते हैं। यह एक हृदयविदारक क्षण है क्योंकि अपराधी (कैकेयी/दशरथ) मौन हैं और निरपराध (राम) क्षमा मांग रहे हैं। इससे उन माताओं का दुःख और बढ़ जाता है।
