Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्त्वा तु वचनं बाष्पेण पिहितेक्षणः ।
रामेति सकृदेवोक्त्वा व्याहर्तुं न शशाक ह ॥२-३९-८॥
evamuktvā tu vacanaṃ bāṣpeṇa pihitekṣaṇaḥ |
rāmeti sakṛdevoktvā vyāhartuṃ na śaśāka ha ॥2-39-8॥
Translation
Having spoken these words, with his eyes obstructed by tears, he cried out 'Rama' just once and was unable to speak any further.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा वचन कहकर, आंसुओं से नेत्र बंद हो जाने पर, वे (राजा) केवल एक बार 'राम' कहकर फिर कुछ भी बोलने में समर्थ न हो सके।
English Commentary
This verse vividly depicts the physical manifestation of King Dasharatha's grief. The transition from the anger of the previous verse to helpless silence is sudden. His vision is physically blocked by tears (bāṣpeṇa pihitekṣaṇaḥ), symbolizing his inability to bear the sight of reality. Uttering the name 'Rama' once acts as a trigger for a total emotional collapse, choking his voice. It signifies that the King has reached the limits of his endurance; language fails him, leaving only the raw sound of his son's name before silence takes over.

यह श्लोक दशरथ की शारीरिक और मानसिक टूटन का चित्रण है। कैकेयी की निंदा करने के बाद, राजा का दुःख पुनः उन पर हावी हो जाता है। 'बाष्पेण पिहितेक्षणः' (आंसुओं से ढकी हुई आँखें) उनकी दृष्टि को ही नहीं, उनकी चेतना को भी धुंधला कर रही हैं। 'राम' का नाम ही उनके प्राण और पीड़ा दोनों का केंद्र है। केवल एक बार नाम पुकार कर चुप हो जाना यह दर्शाता है कि उनका कंठ रूध गया है और शब्द अब उनकी वेदना को व्यक्त करने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं हैं। यह वाल्मीकि जी द्वारा करुण रस का उत्कृष्ट चित्रण है।
