संज्ञां तु प्रतिलभ्यैव मुहूर्तात्स महीपतिः ।
नेत्राभ्यामश्रुपूर्णाभ्यां सुमन्त्रमिदमब्रवीत् ॥२-३९-९॥
saṃjñāṃ tu pratilabhyaiva muhūrtātsa mahīpatiḥ |
netrābhyāmaśrupūrṇābhyāṃ sumantramidamabravīt ॥2-39-9॥
Translation
Regaining his consciousness after a moment, the Lord of the Earth (Dasharatha), with eyes filled with tears, spoke these words to Sumantra.

मुहूर्त भर में पुनः चेतना (होश) प्राप्त करके, उन महीपति (दशरथ) ने आंसुओं से भरे नेत्रों के साथ सुमन्त्र से यह कहा।
English Commentary
The narrative highlights the King's vacillation between overwhelming grief and royal duty. Though he swoons from emotional pain, he recovers (pratilabhya saṃjñāṃ) to fulfill his obligations. The title Mahīpati (Lord of the Earth) is significant here; even in his broken state, he remains the sovereign who must ensure the logistics of the decree are carried out. Turning to Sumantra, his trusted charioteer and minister, implies that the King wants to ensure Rama's journey is handled by the most loyal hands possible, despite his tear-filled vision.

अयोध्याकाण्ड में दशरथ बार-बार मूर्छित होते हैं, जो उनके गहरे आघात को दर्शाता है। 'संज्ञां तु प्रतिलभ्य' (होश में आकर) यह सूचित करता है कि वे कर्तव्य से बंधे हैं। यद्यपि वे पुत्र-वियोग में टूट चुके हैं, फिर भी 'महीपति' (पृथ्वी के रक्षक) होने के नाते उन्हें राम के वनगमन की व्यवस्था करनी है। वे अपने सबसे विश्वस्त मंत्री और सारथी, सुमन्त्र, को संबोधित करते हैं। राजा की स्थिति दयनीय है—आँखों में अब भी आंसू हैं, परन्तु वे अंतिम आदेश देने के लिए स्वयं को सँभालते हैं।
