जातमिष्टमपत्यं मे त्वमद्यानुपमं भुवि ।
दत्तमिष्टमधीतं च मया पुरुषसत्तम ॥२-४-१३॥
jātamiṣṭamapatyaṃ me tvamadyānupamaṃ bhuvi |
dattamiṣṭamadhītaṃ ca mayā puruṣasattama ॥2-4-13॥
Translation
(Dasharatha speaks to Rama again in private): "O best among men! You are my beloved and incomparable son born on this earth. I have given gifts, performed sacrifices, and studied the scriptures."

(दशरथ पुनः राम से एकांत में कहते हैं): "हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ! आज पृथ्वी पर तुम मेरे अनुपम और इष्ट (चहेते) पुत्र उत्पन्न हुए हो। मैंने (अपने जीवन में) दान दिया है, यज्ञ किए हैं और वेदाध्ययन भी किया है।"
English Commentary
The scene shifts to a private chamber in Sarga 4, where Dasharatha has recalled Rama urgently. Here, the King reflects on his life's achievements. He asserts that he has fulfilled the debts of a Dharmic life: studying the Vedas (adhitam), performing sacrifices (ishtam), and giving charity (dattam). The birth of Rama, an "incomparable" son, is the crowning glory of his existence. Addressing Rama as Purushasattama (Best among men), Dasharatha implies that his life is complete, and installing Rama is the final act to close his tenure successfully.

संदर्भ बदल चुका है (सर्ग ४)। दशरथ ने राम को दोबारा एकांत में बुलाया है। यहाँ दशरथ अपने जीवन का लेखा-जोखा प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि उन्होंने गृहस्थ और राजा के सभी कर्तव्य पूरे कर लिए हैं—'दत्तं' (दान), 'इष्टं' (यज्ञ), 'अधीतं' (अध्ययन)। अब केवल एक ही इच्छा शेष है—राम का अभिषेक। राम को 'अनुपम' (जिसकी उपमा न हो) कहना यह बताता है कि दशरथ को राम पर कितना गर्व है। यह एक पिता की कृतकृत्यता (sense of fulfillment) का उद्गार है जो अपनी विरासत सौंपने को तैयार है।
