Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुहृदश्चाप्रमत्तास्त्वां रक्षन्त्वद्य समन्ततः ।
भवन्ति बहुविघ्नानि कार्याण्येवंविधानि हि ॥२-४-२४॥
suhṛdaścāpramattāstvāṁ rakṣantvadya samantataḥ |
bhavanti bahuvighnāni kāryāṇyevaṁvidhāni hi ॥2-4-24॥
Translation
And let your vigilant friends protect you from all sides today, for indeed, tasks of this kind (like a coronation) are fraught with many obstacles.

और तुम्हारे अप्रमत्त (सतर्क) मित्र आज तुम्हें चारों ओर से रक्षा करें। क्योंकि इस प्रकार के कार्यों (राज्याभिषेक) में निश्चय ही बहुत से विघ्न (बाधाएँ) उत्पन्न होते हैं।
English Commentary
This verse is also part of the counsel given by King Dasaratha to Lord Shri Rama concerning security and caution on the eve of his coronation. After instructing Rama on the vows in the previous verse, Dasaratha now emphasizes the need for protection. He directs that all of Shri Rama's vigilant friends must guard him from every side. The reason provided is that important and great undertakings like a coronation are often subject to 'bahuvighnāni' (many obstacles), implying the existence of antagonists or envious parties who might attempt to thwart the auspicious event. This remark not only reflects the political realities of the time (where conspiracies for high office were common) but also reveals King Dasaratha's deep affection and his latent anxiety about potential obstructions. The instruction indicates that the coronation was not merely a religious ritual but also a serious political event, necessitating physical security alongside religious purity. This foresight tragically foreshadows the very obstacles—namely, Manthara's poisoning of Kaikeyi's mind—that would indeed arise.
